The paper describes a teaching activity of group translation completed by a high school class of the Liceo Scientifico “S. Cannizzaro” (Palermo) in school year 2018-19. After reading a group of mathematical problems collected by Alcuin of York (735 – 804 AD), the students have been required to turn their translations into algebraic formulas. At the end of the educational path, the whole activity has been documented on a website created by the students themselves.
